NA President attends Khmou ethnic New Year celebration

On 3-4 January, Mrs. Pany Yathortou, President of the National Assembly and her entourage attended the New Year celebration of Khmou ethnic people in Phongthong district, Luangprabang province.

Mrs. Pany and her entourage was received a warm welcome by Mr. Khamkhan Chanthavysouk, vice governor of Luangprabang province, authorities, and people of the district.

Mr. Somly Khamkeng, chief of the Phonthong district has briefed the NA President’s delegation about the situation of the social-economic development made in the district during the past few years. He said that the district was established on 2 November, 2012 which is divided from the districts of Viengkham and Ngoy and is 232 km far from the chief town of the province in the north. The district also shares a border with Viengthong district of Huaphan province and Mai district of Phongsaly province.

Phonthong district is comprised with 5 village clusters, 38 villages, 2,775 households and more than 18,000 peoples.

Mrs. Pany used the occasion to wish the Khmou people a happy new year. She also praised the Khmou people’s achievements over the last year and urged them to continue to contribute to the socio-economic development of the district.
