Vientiane People’s Court has agreed to grant amnesty for 30 prisoners, of whom eight are women who have been recognized to attain good behavior during jail terms by reducing term of imprisonment.

The grant ceremony of amnesty was held in Vientiane province on 24 December in the presence of Vientiane Deputy Governor Bounmee Phoudthavong, authorities from Provincial Justice Division, Vientiane People’s Court, Provincial Prosecution Office and other representatives from sectors concerned.

Mr Bouachanh Saybanya, Head of Vientiane Prison, said that the grant of amnesty was made by a President’s decree on 23 January 2012 and Vientiane Governor’s agreement on 20 December 2012.

The amnesty has been granted on occasion of the 37th anniversary of National Day on 2 December and 92nd anniversary of late President Kaysone Phomvihane.

Vientiane Deputy Governor Bounmee urged good behavior prisoners who have been given amnesty to pay intention to develop yourself to become future good citizens and do honest business under the law of Lao PDR.
