The rights of people with disabilities have been improved since the Lao PDR acceded to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, according to Committee at the Lao People with Disabilities Association Somchit Kounkasen.
“The People with Disabilities Association has 10 branches nationwide, but people with disabilities in urban and rural areas still face more difficulties in term of living conditions than normal people and have a limited access to education,” said Mr. Somchit.
“We have promoted solidarity among people with disabilities nationwide protecting their rights and moral interest and encourage their innovation so that they can contribute to their selfreliance and lessen the burden of their families,” said Somchit.
The meeting was held on July 5 at the International Cooperation and Training Centre (ICTC), Vientiane Capital, and presided over by President of the National People with Disabilities Association, Mr. Bounvieng Louangyoth. Attending the event were representatives from provinces across the countries.
