May 31, 2011(KPL) Savannakhet Health Service announced the impose control measures for dengue fever disease following the recent discovery of new strains of the disease virus – D1 and D4 – in the province.
The Health Service in the province is raising public awareness of preventive and curative measures against dengue fever.
Last year, 22,912 people reportedly infected with dengue fever and 46 casualties from the disease, according to Mr. Khampheui Phanthachone, Vice-Governor of Savannakhet.
In 2006, the number of dengue fever infection was 6,940 and the number of casualties was 6.
Hospitals the province have prepared medicines, blood and medical equipment for dengue fever outbreak.
Children and the elderly are warned against the risk of infecting the deadly disease and advised to have medical treatment at hospitals when they have suspected symptoms.
Since January this year, 243 cases of dengue fever infection have been reported in Saravanne, 60 cases in Champassak, 24 cases in Attapeu, 45 cases in Vientiane province, 24 in Luang Prabang, 17 in Vientiane Capital, 10 in Bokeo, 10 in Oudomsay, 5 in Sekong, 3 in Sayaboury, and 2 in Khammouane.
