Vientiane: almost all villages access electricity

May 23, 2011

(KPL) Forty-five villages in Vientiane province have gained an access to electricity since 2010, making the number of villages across the province with an electricity access reaching 495 or 98.6 per cent of entire villages.

Twenty-two out of these 45 villages were able to use electricity for the first time last year, according to Head of Electricite du Lao Branch in Vientiane province, Mr. Champathong Vongdeuane.

Mr. Champathong said that 90.40 per cent of households in the province use electricity with all districts gaining an access to power grid.

He attributed the achievement in power development in the province to that EDL paid greater attention to expanding power grid to remote and rural areas and encouraged private companies to participate in improving people access to electricity.

Across the province, there are 23 villages using electricity generated by solar panels.
