Capital and Vientiane province to implement pilot agro-cooperative project

(KPL) Vientiane and Vientiane province are set for implementing a pilot project on establishing agricultural cooperatives.

To many, the project constitutes fundamental for turning subsistent economy to commodity economy in the country and its integration into the world economy.

Deputy Office Head of Agriculture and Forestry Ministry Boun-ay Nounouannavong said that agriculture and forestry sector played an important role in the growth of industry and service therefore the establishment of agricultural cooperative would result in the increase in commodity quality and quantity to meet market demand.

Vientiane Agriculture and Forestry Service in collaboration with JA-Zenchu held a seminar on establishing agricultural cooperatives on May 16 in Vientiane.

‘This seminar contributes to materializing the socio-economic development plan through turning existing groups of farmers to larger cooperatives or associations which will contribute to the turning of subsistent economy to commodity economy,’ said Mr. Boun-ay.
