Savannakhet launches participatory farming project

(KPL) Savannakhet last Thursday held a ceremony for launching Participatory Irrigated Farming Project at the Savannakhet Provincial Agriculture Service.

The project is the cooperation between the Savannakhet Provincial Agriculture Service and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency in Laos (JICA). Its implementation is between November 2010 and October 2015.

The project is being implemented in five villages and villager clusters namely Ton Haen and Somsa-ard in Sayboury district and Yode Houay Bak, Phon Thong, Donyeng and Kengkoke in Champhone district. The promotion of farmer participation in managing irrigation systems to ensure rice and other cash crops farming in the districts is also included in the objective of the project.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. Nouandeng Rasavong, Head of the Irrigation Division, Savannakhet Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Service, Mr. Bounlieng Chanvanpheng, Deputy Head of the Savannakhet Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Service, Mr. Akira Mizuno, JICA Representative in Laos and relevant officials of both sides.
