Merging small villages for larger community

May 3, 2011

Happy faces of Laos' youth.

(KPL) Merging small villages to make larger community and human resource development are vital for poverty reduction and socio-economic development in the country, writes Vientiane Mai newspaper, on its April 29, 2011 issue.

The development in villages and rural areas must be aligned with the development in key areas such as agriculture and forestry, basic educational infrastructure, health and policy making of the government through promoting the participation and self-reliance and self-strengthening of ethnic people in accordance with the centralised plans.

Anti-poverty activities and projects must be prioritized on the basis of their priorities to improve the living conditions.

So far, the development of villages has gained numerous achievements. Significantly the poverty reduction is resulted from the care for the problem by the government and the unity of the entire Lao people. Therefore, the poverty rate in the country has seen a relatively significant decline over the past years. The poverty rate is constantly reducing on an annual basis.

It is necessary for us to merge small villages that are scattered around into a larger community where their population can access better livelihood and income generation as well as communication.
