April 24, 2011

(KPL) Human mortality rate of dengue fever has been reduced by 80 per cent in Laos between 2003-2009, said Head of the Malaria and Parasite Centre, Dr. Bouasy Hongthong.

187 people died of dengue fever in 2003 and five in 2009, according to Dr. Bouasy.

‘We are supposed to reduce the infection rate of dengue fever to as small figure as we can by 2015,’ said Dr.Bouasy.

Since 1950, dengue fever has been attached with government attention and support by international organizations. Over the past ten years, with the support of the World Fund the dengue fever prevention was implemented in seventeen provinces across the country.

And due to such an implementation, the infection rate of the disease has been reduced by over 50 per cent from 6.6 per 1,000 people in 2003 to 3.7 per 1,000 people in 2009.
