Labour force to reach over 3 million

(KPL) The government is preparing for the increase of labour force which is expected to reach over 3.26 million people especially in three main sectors of industry, agriculture/forestry and service, said an official.

Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Investment and Planning, Mrs. Sisomboune Ounavong, told a meeting on drafting cooperation plan between the government and the International Labour Organisation that labour force in agricultural sectors was expected to increase to 2.29 million people, to 0.25 million people for processing industry and construction and to 0.74 million for service sector.

‘We must prepare for the shaft increase of labour force to ensure they can access employment and social security and develop their capacity for the national industrialisation and modernisation,’ she added.

Last week’s meeting was also participated by representatives of labour officials from Thailand and Cambodia.
