Lao officials improve in climate change responding

As the map above shows, out of all countries located in Southeast Asia, Laos is the 2nd most affected country by climate change.

(KPL) More than 60 officials of the Water Resources and Environment Administration have completed a workshop to improve their capacity building in response to the climate change in the Lao PDR.

The workshop was held in Vientiane province, on 8-9 February under the co-chairmanship of Director of the Environment Department of the Water Resources and Environment Administration, Ms. Viengsavanh Douangsavanh, and a senior specialist of the Climate Change Division, Asian Development Bank.

The aim of the workshop was to discuss and approve an action plan of the project for improvement of capacity building in response to climate change, which was funded by the ADB and the Nordic Development Fund, amounting to US$ 3.1 million, and US$300,000 from the government’s contribution.

The project will train Lao specialists in the response to climate change till April 2013.
