(KPL) In cooperation with the Lao Women’s Union, the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union on Saturday held activities in Vientiane under the aegis of international organisations to raise awareness on human trafficking for youths.
The activities include quizzes mainly on human trafficking and reproductive health, concert and football competition.
The activities, the third of its kind ever held by the LPRYU, to raise awareness on human trafficking and rights protection for women and children, according to a member of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Secretariat, Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union, Ms. Somsanith Keodouangdy. ‘This year is different from the past two years. This year’s activity is more diverse with painting, quizzes and concert,’ said Ms. Somsanith. ‘We would like young people to understand human trafficking as the problem deserves global attention. Our target group is young people, primary school kids, secondary school students and university ones,’ said Ms. Somsanith.
‘Today’s activity is aimed at helping the youth recognise human trafficking, what law punishment human traffickers are subject to. This is a flyer which we give to people who want to work in neighbouring country. Contained in this flyer is contact information of agencies in Laos and Thailand who are able to provide information and help to migrant workers,’ said Mr. Saythavy Sayvongmanykongseng of the Village Focus International.
Handicrafts made by human trafficking victims were also available at the event.
