(KPL) A ceremony to mark the achievement in eradicating illiteracy for Vientiane Capital was held last Thursday at the International Cooperation and Training Centre.
Also present at the ceremony were Minister of Education, Mr. Khamphan Viphavanh, Vientiane Mayor Sombath Yialiheu, teachers and authorities concerned.
Illiteracy eradication is aimed at enabling illiterate people aged between 15 and 45 to access intensive training course for primary education, according to an official from Ministry of Education.
From now till 2015, series of incentive training courses will be held for people aged between 15 and 45 in 491 villages across Vientiane Capital to ensure their have secondary education, according to Director of Vientiane Educational Service, Mr. Somphou Keophanya.
‘The Ministry has established a committee responsible for intensive training course for illiterate people. Data collection has been conducted to ensure how many illiterate people there are in a village’ said Mr. Somphou.
‘We will continue encouraging armed force personnel, civil servants and school-aged people and disadvantaged people to complete at least lower secondary education and then upper secondary education as well as gain an access to vocational training,’ added Mr. Somphou.
