(KPL) Khamphone Phanthaboune, villager of Non Tae, Saythany district, Vientiane Capital, said doing organic farming was safe for health of farmers and consumers and brought about better income.
Every weekend, Khamphone takes her organic vegetable to the organic crop market near That Luang gate for sale to provide safe agricultural produce for Vientiane residents.
‘I used to plant crops with common use of chemical fertilizers but this practice of crop planting method exposed my health to illness. I was always sick. In addition, it cost me a lot of money to plant crop,’ said Khamphone.
Khamphone said that she became a member of the Organic Crop Plantation Project in 2005 and she started to plant seasonal crops on a 3,200-sqm plot of her land and took her produce to the weekend market for sale.
‘Now, there are various kinds of vegetables available at not very high prices but every week we earn between 500,000 and 700,000 kip from selling organic crops which are very good income for us. This makes our family self-sufficient and have better health,’ added Khamphone.
