(KPL) President Choummaly Sayasone has called on the Lao Federation of Trade Unions, state and Party organisations and the entire Lao workers to strengthen unity and contribute to the national safeguarding and construction, under the leadership of the Party.
He made the call in the Sixth Plenary Session of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions, held yesterday.
President Choummaly has urged Lao people to fully join the agricultural promotion campaigns aiming at alleviating poverty and taking the country out of the least developed status by 2020.
The sixth plenary session of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions was held while the entire Lao people across the country were celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Lao PDR, Vientiane’s 450th anniversary as the national capital, and the 90th birth anniversary of the late President Kaysone Phomvihane, the implementation of the resolution of the 8th Party Congress, the sixth five-year socio-economic development (2006-2011) and welcoming the resolution of the 9th Party Congress,’ said President of the Lao National Federation of Trade Unions, Mr. Vongpheth Saykeuyachongtoua.
The sixth plenary session of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions has focused on approving a political report on the implementation of the resolution of the 5th Party Congress of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions over the past five years and next five-year plan (2011-2015).
The meeting expects to consider and approve an amended regulation of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions and will pass and approve the inspection result of the 5th executive board of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions.
The meeting will elect a new executive board of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions, Mr. Vongpheth said.
A two-day meeting will sum up the last five-year achievements and weak points of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions.
In its summary report, the Lao Federation of Trade Unions has noted that all union members were actively materialising the resolutions of the 8th Party Congress and the 5th congress of the Lao National Federation of Trade Unions, said Mr. Khamla Lolonsy, Vice-President of Lao Federation of Trade Unions.
Its high-ranking officials have been training to raise their awareness on political ideology in accordance with the Party’s guideline to protect workers’ rights and benefits.
Presently, the Lao Federation of Trade Unions has a total number of 155,108 members, up by 39.18 per cent.
The President of the Lao Front for National Construction Sisavath Keobounphanh was also present in the meeting.
In its next five-year plan, the Lao Federation of Trade Unions will concentrate on translating the upcoming resolution of the ninth Party Congress and the seventh five-year plan of socio-economic development into practice.
The enhancement of the LFTU’s role will also be made through the workers’ mobilising campaign to take part fully in the national development and defence.
