Health care in remote area of Laos.

(KPL) Laotians live two years longer than expected and life expectancy of people in urban areas is much higher, according to Health Minister Ponemek Daraloy.

Live expectancy reached 65 years last year, which is two years beyond the expectation. Meanwhile the life expectancy of people in big cities like Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet and Champassak and Khammouane is much higher.

Mr. Ponemek attributed the significant increase in life expectancy in Laos to the significant development of heath sector in the country over couple years as well as the improvement in health service, mainly technologically, by main hospitals and good disease surveillance system which contributed to the prompt prevention and control of deadly diseases.

He also attributed the development in health sectors to the establishment of development village clusters by merging small villages into larger communities, the establishment of health villages and village health volunteers training programme.
